Biography

Toni L. Goldfarb received her B.A. with highest honors in psychology from New York University and spent two years as a National Science Foundation Graduate Trainee in the physiological psychology Ph.D. program of the City University of New York. She then worked in the Department of Pharmacology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx, NY) as a participant in psychopharmacological research on learning and memory, and on cigarette smoking. Transferring to the Clinical Research Center and Institute for Steroid Research at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center (Bronx, NY), Ms. Goldfarb coordinated research programs on hormonal factors in cancer and heart disease, and served as a liaison to the pharmaceutical companies whose drugs were tested in clinical trials at the Research Center.

In her career as a freelance writer, Toni Goldfarb has contributed to numerous medical journals, physicians' magazines, popular magazines, and to college textbooks in psychology, abnormal behavior, communications, sociology, health, and nutrition. Working with medical communications companies, Ms. Goldfarb often collaborates with physicians and pharmaceutical company executives in the preparation of research papers, patient education programs, monographs, poster presentations, newsletters, and a wide range of continuing education materials.

In 1981, Toni Goldfarb founded Medical Abstracts Newsletter, a monthly consumer publication which provided easy-to-understand summaries of the latest medical breakthroughs and discoveries reported in over 150 scientific journals. As publisher and editor, she brought the newsletter to a peak circulation of more than 20,000 subscribers throughout the United States, Canada, and many foreign countries.

Toni Goldfarb is also the co-author of the American Lung Association's popular smoking cessation book, 7 Steps to a Smoke-Free Life (Edwin B. Fisher, Jr., Ph.D. with Toni L. Goldfarb, John Wiley & Sons), which received excellent reviews and was subsequently reissued on tape, and in four foreign language editions.
